Ever since the beginning of the ongoing pandemic, changes in how we work, where we work, the technologies we use are constantly changing day by day. Although some of these “Changes” were started before the pandemic. In this blog, we shall explore some of the trends in the HR industry during the ongoing year of 2022.
1) Job Seekers seeking for companies with values that match their own:

Yes, you heard that right!. Ever since the pandemic, Employees are constantly looking to apply to companies that have similar values to that of their own. This trend can also be seen in companies as more and more companies/businesses see CSR as a strategic approach to increase their competitiveness as well as their overall public image when it comes to investing in a company or when it comes availing their particular product or services as well as work for them.
Here are some of the values that employees give most importance to include:
a) Equal Pay
b) Racial Justice
c) LGBTQ rights
d) Workplace Equality
2) Skill Based hiring:

As discussed in one of our previous blogs on “What’s causing the global shortage”.
A seemingly ever-growing skill gap is one of the main reasons behind the global labor shortage of today. Due to this growing skill gap, being able to demonstrate one’s capability in new skills has become the way to go when it comes to talent mobility. Since a college degree just doesn’t cut it any more when it comes to have any of these skills that are of huge demand in the present. As a matter in fact, according to a report by glass door companies ranging from google, Hilton hotels and apple are offering well-paying jobs to possessing in-demand skills even despite lacking a degree.
3) Upskilling:

Although this is related to the previous point, Companies like amazon are heavily investing millions into upskilling their current workers. Another example of upskilling can be seen in Mastercard who has been running its own retraining/upskilling program since the year of 2016 to gain a competitive advantage over its competitors.
Moreover, In the long run upskilling and reskilling programs can improve employee engagement, retention and speed up the adoption of new trends within an organization.
4) The Rise of Hybrid Work:

Hybrid work is a flexible work model that supports a blend of in-office and on-the-go / stay at home workers. This model offers the employees especially the autonomy to choose to work whenever they want, wherever they want and however they want to as long as they are the most productive.
The lower number of employees working at the office at a given time would also mean that the number of sick leaves would be much less, thus increasing the overall productivity of the office itself! Businesses looking to hire talent from across the globe, can do so with a hybrid work model.
This does not only give your organization a competitive edge but can also help you in expanding reach to new regional markets, and ensure productivity in your workplace 24/7.
Are you an Employer looking to broaden your talent pool?

Hello, Dear Reader Welcome back to our blog. In this blog, you shall be reading on everything you need to know on how to write a cover letter when applying for a Job.
Before we find out on how to write a cover letter, it is important for us to understand the definition of a cover letter.
What is a Cover letter?

A Cover letter is a one page-document that you submit as part of your job application (Usually alongside your CV).
The main purpose of a cover letter is that it acts a personal introduction to who you are as a person and helps you to pitch yourself to the recruiter/hiring manager of the company that you will be applying to.
A Cover letter acts as a way of communication between you the candidate as well as the recruiter/hiring manager of the company that you will be applying to. There are many ways to how you can tailor your CV cover letter to help you get the job.
When writing a cover letter, one must include the following things within their letter:
A) How a candidates work experience meets the job requirements
b) How your skills meet the job requirements of the employer
c) Why you want to work in their organization &
d) What value will you be able to bring to the table?
Since your cover letter needs to provide proper information to the recruiter that you are the right person for the job.
In order to accomplish this, you must follow these practices when you write a cover letter:
1) Pick a voice and tone to write with:

This is one of the most important things that you must take into consideration when writing a cover letter for a company that you’ll be applying to.
Which is to determine the tone that you’ll need to use when writing a cover letter, doing basic background research on the company will help you in choosing the tone that you’ll want to use when writing a cover letter. (For example, the tone that you’ll need to use with a conglomerate is completely different to that of a tech startup).
2) Tell your story:

Telling some interesting stories your career is not only a way of telling ‘who you are?’ but it also is a useful way to demonstrate your skills which also gives recruiters and hiring managers some insight into your personality and your style of work.
Moreover, matching your stories with the requirements of the job position that you will be applying to will also help the recruiter in making an easier choice in shortlisting you for the interview round!
3) Be Honest:

Always remember “honesty is the best policy!”. If the recruiter/hiring manager were to find out during the screening process that you had lied in your cover letter. In the case that you do have an employment gap in your career, A cover letter is the perfect opportunity to explain why you had the career gap that you did in the first place!
4) Highlight Your Strengths:

Instead of telling the company that you don’t have a certain skill or degree, its okay not to mention it. Highlighting on the skills and experiences that you do have will explain how you make a great fit for the job that you’ll be applying to
5) Format!:

“First Impression is the best impression”, the amount of work that you put into your cover letter perfecting it. Would also give an insight into your work ethic and your work style, An impressive cover letter would help you in landing that job interview that much more easier! Moreover, make sure that your cover letter is not longer than a page (3 to 4 paragraph will do the job!).
Include a space between each greeting, each paragraph and after your closing. This will add a lot more white space which will in turn make your cover letter more professional.
No matter how much effort you put in your cover letter, make sure to pick a professional, readable font so that the hiring manager/ recruiter would be able to read.
We’d recommend Times New Roman Size 12.
6) Proofread:

Since recruiters/hiring managers will have to go through the CV’s and cover letters of hundred’s alongside yours. A small typo can make or break your chances of scoring that interview.
To avoid this, proofread your cover letter for as many times as well you possibly can, by reading through your letter and correct any spelling or grammar errors. If you’re not sure about it yourself, give it to a friend or a family member who can help you out by checking for errors, you can also use that opportunity for some feedback so that you can perfect your cover letter with the help of that feedback.
7) Send it to the right place:

Now that you’re done with your cover letter. The last vital part in your job application is actually sending the cover letter. If the job posting does say to send your cover letter and CV to a specific email. Make sure to send it to that specific email that recruiter/hiring manager wants to receive it in. Be sure to include your name and the position that you’ll be applying for when sending your cover letter in the e-mail.
In case the recruiter wants you to send it through an online application system, make sure to send submit your materials using an online application system and not through e-mail.
That is all you need to know on how to write a great cover letter!. If you’ve read till the end thank you so much for reading. I hope that this was useful for all of the jobseekers reading this!

As global markets begin to stabilize and as production levels slowly reach pre-pandemic levels, many companies are having to navigate and tackle this problem of a labor shortage. Before we dive into what’s causing this labor shortage it is really important for us to define what a global shortage is
What is a Labor Shortage?
A Labor shortage is when there are not enough available workers participating in the labor market to meet the manpower needs of employers of a particular industry or across different industries.
According to industry experts, Assessing the potential impact that work shortages could have on economies of the US, U.K and the Euro Zone. Moreover, while the pandemic has accentuated and underscored labor shortages, the root causes of this shortage has been existent since the pre-pandemic days.
What’s Causing this labor shortage?
In order to overcome the labor shortage it is important for us to identify the causes behind the massive labor shortage. There many causes behind this labor shortage of which we shall focus on the main causes behind this Global Labor Shortage :
1. Covid-19:

As you know the most major cause of the present labor shortages is due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. As a matter in fact the pandemic alone has changed the perception on how most of us view our beloved work or workplace for the better/worse. Moreover, the pandemic has caused more lingering problems for both employees and employers alike.
a. Mental health issues:

As the COVID-19 wreaked its havoc across the world during the year of 2020, many mental health professional had expressed their concern on the impact that global lockdowns had on many worker’s mental health. Today in the present day, it seems to be that this is proving to be true.
b. Immigration disruptions:

Migrant workers make up to 5% of the Global workforce. This Is especially true for countries such as the United States, Saudi Arabia, The United Arab Emirates, Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom who depend quite heavily on these workers to meet their production and manpower needs.
The pandemic had significantly hindered this dependency on migrant workers as all of the above-mentioned countries had stricter immigration policies to curb the spread of the virus within their borders. In countries such as the UK, the combination of BREXIT as well as the pandemic had caused their immigration rates to fall as low as 80% in the year of 2020 alone!.
As the world recovers back to its pre-pandemic levels many countries around the world are slowly removing these immigration restrictions. However, it could take years or maybe even a decade for migration rates to get close to pre-pandemic levels.
2. An Aging Population :

Another factor which is currently causing the labor shortage of today is the aging population in many country across the world. Although this problem had existed for years during the pre-pandemic days. The effect of an aging population has had its effect during the pandemic. Unfortunately, this is only expected to increase in the upcoming decades.
Studies show that by the year of 2030 , one in every six people will be aged more than 65 and by the year of 2050 this number is expected double. The combination of falling birth rates , an aging population , Mental health issues only means that there will be lesser people available to work leading to a labor shortage.
3. Skill Gap :

The labor market of the present is a continuous uphill battle caused by technological disruption, demographic change and the constant evolving nature of work. This mainly due to the introduction of AI and other automation technologies ,
Such advancements has caused huge changes in how the workforce adapts their day to day operations . Due to this employers seek for employees who can adapt and learn to these new tech innovations. Moreover, due to this skill gap in the labor market . Many employers have slowed down the adoption of such technological advancements . The effects of a skill gap have been felt across many industries as it has drastically delayed the transformation of many kinds of industries.
Moreover, According to a PWC Report , Closing the global skills gap would add an additional 11.5 Trillion $ to the Global GDP by 2028.
Further Implications of a Global Labor Shortage:

The ongoing labor shortage combined with the factors of the COVID-19 pandemic, an aging population and A widening skill gap in the labor market is expected to increase in the years to come. This may disrupt impact the society at large since disruptions to the supply chain might lead to product shortages.
Similar to the Global Chip shortage that we’ve seen in the year of 2021. Moreover, the widening skill gap can prevent business from implementing emerging technology with the root cause being that most of the employers cannot implement new technologies without first acquiring employees that posses the skills required to fully make use of these technologies.
